Playoff Game #1: 2nd-NL1 vs. 3rd-HOST

NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light dropped a 1-0 decision to the HOST Gahan House Bud Light Fawcetts in the second Double-Life game played Friday at the 2010 Canadian Senior Men's Fastpitch Championship in Charlottetown, PEI.

With the loss, NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light are now down to one life at the 2010 Canadian Senior Men's Fastpitch Championship.

The games lone run was scored in the second inning.

HOST SCORE RUN ON STRANGE PLAY:

The games only run came when the PEI batter faced a 2-2 count. The pitch came in and the batter check swung and had clearly went around. Sean O’Brien thinking it was the 3rd strike threw the ball down to third base, but the umpire called a ball and the appeal was also a ball. Because the ball was thrown to 3rd before the batter was finished, it was ball four and the runner reached first. The next batter moved the runner at first with a SAC Bunt and was drove in on a base hit.

NL HAD CHANCE TO TIE:

In the 7th Inning, Jason Hill led off with a triple and tried to score on Bryan Clarke’s flyout, but was thrown out at home by Jeff Ellsworth and there was a huge collision at the plate as the cather had blocked the plate from Hill.

Kevin Schellenberg (2-3, RBI) led the way offensively for the Host club, while teammates Chris Craig (1-2 Run), Jeff Ellsworth (1-2), Rob Geisbrecht (1-3) and Jamie MacDonald (1-3) chipped in for the winners.

Jason Hill (2-3) led the way offensively for NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light, while teammates Geoff Evely (1-2), Brad Ezekiel (1-3), Justin Gill (1-3) and Sean O'Brien (1-3) each chipped in with hits in a losing effort.

Not much to choose from between the pitching match-up in this contest: Trevor Ethier (HOST) vs. Sean Whitten (NL1). Ethier hurled the shutout as the right-hander pitched 7-Innings, 0 Runs, 6 HIts, 2 Walks and 4 Strikeouts, while Whitten pitched 7-Innings, 1 Run, 6 Hits, 2 Walks and 5 Strikeouts in the loss.

NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light defeated NB Fredericton Coors Light Twins 5-3 Friday night at the 2010 Canadian Senior Men's Fastpitch Championship in Charlottetown, PEI.

As a result of the win, NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light have now advanced to Sunday where they will play ON Owen Sound Verge Selects.

The game was tied 3-3, but with one-out in the Bottom of the 7th Inning NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light scored two runs to come away with the 5-3 win.

MULLALEY'S BLAST KEEPS NL1 IN HUNT FOR GOLD:

Stephen Mullaley hit a walk off 2R HR to win the game that cleared the beer tent past the centerfield fence!

Stephen Mullaley (3-4, R, 4RBI) led the way offensively for NL1 3Cheers Pub Bud Light and Justin Gill (2-3, 3R) collected a pair of hits, while Bryan Clarke (1-2), Derek Mayson (1-3), Jason Hill (1-3), Sean O'Brien (1-3) and Brad Ezekiel (1-4, R) each chipped in with one hit.

Rene Goguen (2-3, 2R) led the way offensively for NB Fredericton Coors Light Twins, while Chris Ryan (1-2, RBI), Pat Humphries (1-2), Jeremy Tracy (1-3, RBI) and Nick Theriault (1-3, R) each chipped in with one hit.

Ward Gosse (Starter) pitched 5IP, 2R, 4H, 0BB, 5K and Sean Whitten (2IP, 1R, 2H, 1BB, 1K) came on in relief to pick-up the win.

Bryan Newton (6.1IP, 5R, 10H, 1BB, 2K) took the loss in this contest.
